Unfortunately, the game’s controls are awful, and the game does a poor job communicating important information to the player. Tl dr – Bridge Constructor Playground is a game with Simulation and Puzzle elements that has the player building bridges using the touchscreen. With the broken controls and the game’s poor communication with the player, this is far more frustrating than it is fun. While the Wii U seems like an ideal platform for a bridge-building Simulation / Puzzle game like this, Bridge Constructor Playground is a miserable take on that formula. Heck, even the menus are frustrating, often not responding when you tap an option and not indicating to you when it did register your selection but it’s taking a moment to load. Perhaps worse is the fact that this game doesn’t even properly communicate to players when two adjacent pieces aren’t actually connected, leading to them immediately falling apart when you try a test run. The controls here are extremely fiddly, with the game frequently mis-reading your touchscreen inputs as you draw to indicate where building materials will go. Unfortunately, it’s not one you’ll want to play for the gameplay either. This is definitely not a game you’ll be playing for the graphics and sound. The presentation here is pretty sub-par, with the game using ugly, simple low-poly 3D for its environments, and backing these visuals with an annoyingly repetitive soundtrack. Bridge Constructor Playground, released on mobile devices in 2012, PC in 2014, and then Wii U in 2016, is a game that combines Simulation and Puzzle elements, challenging players to create a structurally sound bridge in various locations using a selection of different building materials.
